FTUC has more than two centuries of existence. Presently, it has approximately 470 Professors/Researchers who draw on an involvement in cutting-edge research to assure the best education at all levels. Fourteen departments offer programs leading to the Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degree programs. The R&D infrastructures are organized in 16 Units, including the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra (CISUC), funded in 1995. CISUC hosts 57 PhD researchers on the following groups: Cognitive and Media Systems, Adaptive Computation, Software and Systems Engineering, Communications and Telematics, Information Systems, Evolutionary and Complex Systems.
The Laboratory of Communications and Telematics (LCT) of CISUC has been involved in many research projects and has participated in technical committees and expert groups at national and international level in the area of computer networking and computer communications. At present, LCT is involved in several national and international research projects, with 37 researchers and students at PhD levels. Current research activity address topics that include but are not restricted to quality of service, security, network management, mobility and multicast. LCT has an extensive background on research projects with public national funding, industry funding and European funding. Recent European funded projects include EuQoS (IP), WEIRD (IP), CONTENT (NoE), OPENNET (SSA), GINSENG (STREP) and MICIE (STREP).
FCTUC will design and Implement a distributed platform for online detection of anomalies and cyber threats in IACS, encompassing the telecom and operator infrastructures, also including security event management (Normalization, Adaptors, Correlation). This platform will include online security probing components (physical components, agents and Virtual Network Functions) – the use of Network Function Virtualization and Software-Defined Network-based mechanisms for operator and/or infrastructure-level integration at the service and network levels is also one of the main novelties. FCTUC will lead WP4 (“Distributed Awareness”), also taking an active role in all other technical work packages including task leadership for T2.1 and T6.3, as well as in the dissemination activities.
